Working Title Band knows how to "throw down", whether a concert, conference, formal dinner, wedding or party, they have the musical combination to ignite any event!
Formed in 2008, by the late great Laidlaw Fraser-Smith, this vibrant and highly versatile band continues to prove to be nothing less than a crowd-pleaser. With all its members being seasoned musicians filled with diverse and extensive backgrounds, Working Title delivers a wide range of musical genres to fit nearly every occasion. Consisting of Lamont Robinson and Sarafina Durrant as lead singers, bassist Sherwin Lee, guitarist Albert Joell, Jr., Keyboardist Ryan Durrant and drummer Jordan Lambe, this must have group loves to play and works very hard at ensuring an enjoyable experience.
Working Title’s vast variety of music and how well they interact with their audience, has made them the go to band for wedding planners and event organizers throughout Bermuda. Ranging from Pop, Rock, Oldie-Goldie’s, Reggae, Rhythm & Blues, Calypso and Top 40s, Working Title plays the perfect combination of music to keep the crowd going. Topped with their willingness to accommodate and friendly disposition they have become a first choice pick for almost any function on the island. They are a fun group that won’t disappoint and are a pleasure to watch!
Working Title began as a quartet playing enthusiastically outside of Opus Lounge & Wine Bar every week, "rain blow or shine"! They were led by the late Laidlaw Fraser-Smith, bass player and the brains behind the band's success. He strongly believed that a band will thrive if they're playing regularly because it helps to give the members an incentive to play more. He couldn't have been more correct and with that thought, along with the original members, keyboardist Oliver Grant, drummer Johnny DeSilva, and lead singer Lamont Robinson, they captivated the hearts of patrons and passers-by of Opus Lounge for over three years. It was during this period that Working Title Band picked up its fifth member guitarist Steve Crawford, who coincidentally had stopped by to hear the band and a week later was a welcomed addition to the fold.
Powered with a group of five, Working Title became unstoppable. Their enthusiasm and sheer love to play music had them "jamming" regularly in the midst of diners at Flanagan's Pub & Restaurant, along the poolside of Newstead Hotel, on the beach of Snorkel Park Restaurant & Bar, on the lawn of Fairmont Hamilton Princess, the patio of the Reefs Hotel, at weddings and conventions. They had turned a one-gig-a-week experience into a five day "jam" that spread across the Island. Eventually they fortuned upon Sarafina Durrant who totally mesmerized them with her brilliant voice, she was an obvious choice to welcome into the group, making her the sixth member.
Working Title Band has had personal changes over the years, with the first being the founder, Laidlaw Fraser-Smith, who sadly passed away and is greatly missed by those left behind. The band continued to press on filling the bass player position with amazing musicians. Rick Hawke being the first, followed by Jeffray Marshall, Sidney Simmons, Wentworth Woolridge and finally the brilliantly versatile Sherwin Lee.
Johnny DeSilva resigned from drumming leaving the path to Dwight Hart, Andwele Simons and eventually the vibrant playing of Jordan Lambe.
Steve Crawford
also resigned handing the torch to the ever so talented Albert Joell, Jr. who subbed for Steve and now is the core guitarist.
Oliver Grant, the last of the original members to leave, resigned from his role as the band’s keyboardist opening the door to the melodic hands of Ryan Durrant.
Sarafina Durrant joined as the female lead singer, and has been nothing less than explosive. Laidlaw would have been more than proud to see how the band has developed with her.
McCartney Darrell-Hart join the band as a third singer for a season, making it an amazing trio of lead singers in the band. She along with Dwight Hart resigned from the band to get married and live abroad. The band wishes them both a life of happiness and prosperity.
Lamont Robinson, band leader and lead singer, remains the last original member of the band. With an endless amount of energy that exhilarates any crowd, Lamont desires not only to keep the "Laidlaw dream" alive, which is simply to play, play, play and play some more but to remain the go to band for audiences in Bermuda and around the world.
